Our Commitment to Diverse Communities

Schreiber Philanthropy has a special focus on those most excluded from opportunity, including people who have been historically marginalized, immigrants, asylum-seekers and refugees, first-generation collegegoers, and underinvested individuals.

Key Dates and Milestones

2005

Schreiber Philanthropy is founded as the John and Kathleen Schreiber Foundation, primarily focused on funding social issues in the Lake County and Chicagoland area.

Between 2005-2018

John and Kathy grow their commitments to education, health initiatives, and human services.

2018

Philanthropic giving increases by 100%.

2020

John and Kathy decide to shift toward a limited-lifespan foundation model, versus a foundation that would live in perpetuity.

2021

Annual philanthropic giving increases by 400%.

2023

The Foundation hires its first non-family CEO.

2024

In its 19th year, the organization develops a new strategic plan, refines its mission and giving areas, forms a new board of directors, and shifts to the name Schreiber Philanthropy.
