  • Schreiber Philanthropy is a brand that unifies grantmaking across several funding partners under one umbrella. The funding partners include The John and Kathleen Schreiber Foundation, now doing business as Schreiber Philanthropy, donor-advised fund giving, and the Schreibers’ personal giving.

  • No. Federal tax law prohibits private foundations from funding lobbying activities. Schreiber Philanthropy may support organizations engaged in public policy advocacy by, for example, providing general operating support or funding educational advocacy such as nonpartisan research, technical assistance, or examinations of broad social issues. To ensure compliance with federal tax laws, we encourage grant applicants to describe the nature of advocacy activities in their grant applications and reports.

  • At this point in time, we are primarily focused on Lake County and Chicago, with a special focus on the South and West Sides. As Schreiber Philanthropy evolves, we will continue to evaluate our geographic footprint.

  • Grant cycles are quarterly and have four-month timelines from the application open date to decision announcements.
